3-8-07 Thurs 8:14pm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE PICTURES. No one told me the pictures were not working so i fixed them up. If you had trouble uploading pics before now they will work. I have also made it so when you set your MainPic (the pic that people see) it makes a thumb and adds that to the chat. So IF YOU WANT YOUR PICTURE TO SHOW UP IN CHAT set your mainpic, even if you have already set it do it again and it should show up in chat. Im also going to see if i can add more search features to the browse page since we have a ton of users but im not sure how far ill get. JUST SOME ADVICE if you have pic problems the best pics are .jpg format and have NO SPACES in the name of the picture Thanks for coming -Michael 3-1-07 Thurs 9:36am --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well this is it, our new home for now. You should notice a lot more speed. If you have any troubles i have made a new HELP section, its in the buttons at the top. Pretty much if you have a problem and you dont post it there ill never know of it. I plan on beefing up the chat room even more so you can do private chat and some other stuff, not sure when ill do that though. 2-28-07 Wed 10:44am --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are moving to a new server! I thought i could do it fast because i was able to with another site of mine, however, it may take up to 48 hours to do the "transfer" of domains. So i have restored the link to the old server while we wait. During this time i would not recommend chaning anything or signing up because whatever changes take place now might not take place on the new server(since the page is really already there). Anyway should be soon. Hopefully we can do more stuff with the new server, like more interactivity in the chat. 2-14-07 Wed 9:05am --------------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU CANT POST COMMENTS OR PM please go to www.mozilla.com and download firefox. Then use firefox to look at the web page. I think the page works fine in later versions of Internet Explorer, if someone could test this that would be great! I have updated the default userpage look. I tried to make it look as much like myspace as i could (in the alloited time). Anyway check your page because alot of you who like to do stuff like have red text on a red background, your pages look messed up. Anyway check your page to make sure it looks ok if it dosent you might wanna start over. I promise this is the last time ill change the userpage layout, i know some of you have spent time on it. Oh and the thing you use to make your page may be off in a few areas, try it and see. 2-13-07 Tuesday 9:05pm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well i think we were the victim of hackers. Or maybe just angry people that are tired of getting unwanted text messages. Anyway i have changed the guest thing so you dont see guests anymore, so if you want to be seen register and log on. The guest accounts were making all kinds of havoc in the chat room while the black hat was running his brute force spoof attack. Anyway if you are the hacker im glad you have shown intrest in my site. The dissapointing thing is even if you do hack somones account you can only mess with that account. I never made any back end control panel or anything. Another thing is the site is liable to become stagnat and no one will knotice if you do mess with stuff. Anyway i would like to meet you even if i dont know your name so register under some alias and send a message to michael if you would like to speak to me, believe it or not you dont see that many people around who even know how to do a spoof attack. Of course if you at all become a annoyance i can totally screw your life up in ways that cant be illegal because they have never been done. Just think about it everything is so logged and there is a thing called traceroute that can get your ip from all those spoofed ip addresses. But, anyway im a nice guy and i like friends more than foes so its up to you. 2-13-07 Tuesday 2:05pm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Server was DOWN today from about 2pm till 6pm, it took me that long to find that a error_log file was like so full the server could not write to it anymore. This caused the whole server to stop. Anyway it could happen again but now we know what to do :). I plan on making a galvestonchatroom "messenger" kind of like yahoo messenger or msn messenger, when i finish it ill post it on the site so everyone can download. That way you dont hafto be at the site to chat, and you can see when others log on. Im doing some stuff with the pictures, instead of showing the giant ass pictures you all upload it shows a thumb which will load much faster. This means that some pictures will not work(untill i fix it totally). And to all the new people i hafto use google picassa to change the resalution of all your pics, so if your new and you just uploaded some pics they wont be totally working for a few days. I also plan on changing the login system so you log in with your email, ill put a knotice when i do. 1-11-07 Thursday 9:27am --------------------------------------------------------------------------- People please stop signing up with blank spaces in your name, it makes it so you cant log on. Anyone who puts a blank space in there name ill replace it (if i see it) with a underscore, so log on with a underscore where the blank space was. Other than that happy new year, we seem to be getting new people in here. ttyl 12-3-06 Monday 1:47pm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went ahead and made the banner at the top of this page smaller so it will load faster. I also took of the pictures in the most popular users and the newest users thing. I know it was nice to have pictures of the users there but i think it might have been taking too long for others to load the page. I also removed the lastest active members because it wasnt working, I might fix it up later but all you hafto do is go to the chat to see who has been active. I also changed the colors a little and removed some un-needed stuff from this front page. I believe that maybe people dont come that much is because this page loads very slow, im running it off a normal internet connection and it had to load all those pictures of users right off the bat. Some people that looked at the page told me it took them over a minute to load it. If this is the case than it could be worse for other people and just totally time out for others. So since this is the first page they see when they log on i toned it down a little. If you guys would make sure you mainpic isnt really huge that would help when they browse users. I totally agree with Ryan, people that hardly log on and when they do log on just complain because no one is here are very stupid. We could do without people like that, if they cant see why logging on once in 3 months and complaining that no one is here is stupid im not going to explain it. Yes i could make people come to the site by sending out thousands of text messages to just about everyone in the 409 area code but people really dont like that, ya 1 in 5 will come to the page and join, but those other 4 will try and track me down and hollar and scream at me because i sent them a message, so its a last resort! Thanks go out to Ryan, threedacid, dawn and anyone else who logs on at least every once in a while to keep things going. And i kinda agree with him, users that dont log on at least once every 2 months may be delted i dont think thats too mean. I dont want alot of dead weight on the page also people should make pictures. I would much rather have 15 (we really have ~15 active users) active users than 70 unactive, yes it gives people something to look at but if somone ever tries to contact one of those old people they wont be able to because that person never logs on I have deleted all persons who havent logged on since late august. I will soon make a mod that deletes you after you have not been active for 2 months, ill make it so it sends you out a warning email(so use the right email !!) Anyway if somone has a opinion on this make it known in the chat, i can still restore all those old accounts they are backed up! but after a user requested it ... -michael 9-16-06 friday 4:25 AM OMFG --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally got the damn page back up in a half ass sort of way. This is only one of like 8 pages i have so im still messing with some stuff. Ill write a story later on another page explaining what happened... right now itz 4:25 so i want to finish Michael 8-27-06 Sunday --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have changed the look of the page a bit. Lots of new members keep joining. For some reason sometimes it says they joined yesterday when in fact they joined a few days ago, not sure why this isnt working when i have time ill look into it but for now ill just make it say the date. However, when it says they joined today they did join today. The site is more or less active, it is alot more active in the PM and comments than in the chat.I have started a contest for a new banner for Galvestonchatroom.com, now is the time to show your skillz in photoshop. If you know how to make a banner (the picture at the top of this page) make one upload it as one of your pictures then when we have a few ill put up a vote for a couple of days then ill replace the banner if it is better than the old one. It is good to have change every once and a while. If anyone has questions send a message to mike or send a message in the chat and hopefully ill see it. I will be starting school soon and that takes priority but i think this site is doing ok on its own there is a new member every few days (if not 2 or 3). Good Luck Michael ***OLD*** I have totally finished with the cell phone notification system you can now go ahead and set up your cell phone to notify you when you get a private message or when somone joins the chat .. there are lots more options for the cell phone also for instance you can allow people to send messages directly to your cell phone. Just log in and click on the top where it says my cell to set up your cell phone. Let me know if i dont have your provider listed i can easily add more providers I made a user rating system so every time a user is clicked by a different person/computer it adds to their rating the ratings are shown in the browse or userpage pages. I have deleted the forums no one used them, if I get a request i will reinstate the forums. But I see no purpose in having them unless people want them. |
